The students of the Centre for Holocaust Studies and the students of David Yellin College of Education in Jerusalem are working together on a project that they were both invited to participate in by the Polish Institute in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
“I have saved/ I have been saved” is a educational research project that aims to present four stories that present the figures of people who helped to save others and those who have been saved during the Holocaust. There are four heroes - the saviours, who showed tremendous determination in their efforts to rescue and save four Jews, who owe their lives to them. As a result of the cooperation between both research institutes our students will have the opportunity to go to Israel, whereas their colleagues will be able to visit Poland.
The cooperation between the Polish and Israeli side will result in a joint publication that will be the conclusion of the research effort of the students involved in the project.

Edukacji o Holokauście oraz Miasto Oświęcim zapraszają do udziału w projekcie „Sprawiedliwi Wśród Narodów Świata jako ponadczasowy wzór postaw- szkolenia dla młodzieży z zakresu kompetencji społecznych” realizowanego w ramach Programu Operacyjnego Wiedza Edukacja Rozwój, nr umowy POWR.03.01.00-00-C065/16

Opis projektu:

Projekt ma na celu kształcenie wśród młodzieży kompetencji z zakresu komunikowania się, współpracy, krytycznego i kreatywnego myślenia, a także umiejętności rozwiązywania problemów poprzez realizacje 4 innowacyjnych modułów kształcenia. 40 uczestników weźmie udział w 4 weekendowych zjazdach odbywających się na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim w Krakowie (Katedra UNESCO ds. Edukacji o Holokauście) oraz w Mieście Oświęcim (Miejska Biblioteka Publiczna w Oświęcimiu – Galeria Książki).

Program:

W ramach projektu młodzież będzie uczestniczyć w czterech tematycznych zjazdach :

Zjazd 1 - moduł zajęć z zakresu historii II WŚ oraz metodologii projektów edukacyjnych,

Zjazd 2 – moduł zajęć z zakresu historii mówionej, roli miejsc pamięci i wykorzystania innowacyjnych metod w edukacji,

Zjazd 3 - moduł poświęcony kształtowaniu postaw na przykładzie Sprawiedliwych Wśród Narodów Świata,

Zjazd 4 - seminarium podsumowujące projekt, prezentacja wyników badań uczestników, spotkanie z Ocalonym.

Młodzież w czasie całości trwania projektu będzie poszukiwała bohaterów w swoich lokalnych społecznościach, a wyniki swoich badań zaprezentuje w czasie seminarium podsumowującego projekt.

W ramach realizacji poszczególnych zjazdów w projekcie przewidziano:

Zajęcia z wykwalifikowaną kadrą uniwersytecką,

Zajęcia w formie warsztatów,

Wyjazdy studyjne do Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau i Muzeum Polaków Ratujących Żydów podczas II wojny światowej im. Rodziny Ulmów w Markowej,

Spotkanie z Ocalonym z Zagłady.

Uczestnicy projektu:

Uczniowie liceów zainteresowani poszerzeniem wiedzy i kompetencji niezbędnych do podjęcia studiów, którzy wykażą się:

-zainteresowaniem historią II wojny światowej,

-działalnością w zakresie aktywności w przeciwdziałaniu dyskryminacji,

-promowaniem pożądanych w społeczeństwie postaw,

oraz przedstawią propozycję osoby z regionu, która może nosić miano lokalnego bohatera.

Do udziału w projekcie mogą się zgłaszać czteroosobowe grupy uczniów z jednej szkoły wraz z nauczycielem/opiekunem.

W ramach realizacji projektu zostały przewidziane koszty związane z zakwaterowaniem, wyżywieniem oraz przejazdami uczestników projektu

Terminy zjazdów: 16-18 marca, 13-15 kwietnia, 11-13 maja, 8-10 czerwca 2018 roku

Program Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE)

The programme Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) is organized by the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York. This is an innovative programme for university students, designed to address contemporary ethical issues through the unique historical context of the Holocaust.

It is an intensive two-week summer program on contemporary law, journalism, medical and business ethics. Fellowships include an all-expense paid trip from New York to Berlin, Krakow, and Oświęcim (Auschwitz) where students work with leading faculty to explore both history and the ethical issues facing working their professions today.

Thanks to the partnership between the Centre and the Museum each year since 2013 two candidates from Jagiellonian University are invited to participate in this program.

The Centre for the Holocaust Studies at the Jagiellonian University has started the official cooperation with Miami Dade College by signing the Memorandum of Understanding. One of the planned project is to organize the summer school for undergraduate students from Florida's college and to introduce them to the issues of Polish history, Polish-Jewish relations and the Holocaust.

Teaching about the Holocaust
Summer Institute, Cracow 1-4 July 2016

The second edition of the Master Program Teaching about the Holocaust will be held at the Centre for Holocaust Studies and the UNESCO Chair in Education about the Holocaust, Jagiellonian University. It is a common project of Polish, American and German partners: the Centre for Holocaust Studies JU, the UNESCO Chair in Education about the Holocaust JU, Koret Foundation and Stiftung "Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft" with the cooperation of: Yad Vashem. The Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, the Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University, Galicia Jewish Museum and the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim/Auschwitz.

The funding of the Institute is provided by Koret Foundation and Stiftung "Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft".

The experts invited to the seminar are recognized scholars and educators, among them: prof. Michael Berenbaum, prof. Tadeusz Lubelski, prof. Sławomir Kapralski, prof. Jolanta Ambrosewicz-Jacobs. The objective of the Master Program Teaching about the Holocaust is to provide Polish teachers with in-depth information and specific educational tools, methods and strategies that are effective while teaching about the Holocaust, the genocide of the Roma and human rights in 21st century classroom. The participants will be provided with practical knowledge how to use new technologies and multimedia (mobile applications, e-learning platforms, AV materials etc.) as well as how to make best use of local memory sites not only to restore memory and Jewish heritage in Poland, but also make students aware of Jewish presence in Polish history.

25 middle and high school teachers, NGOs educators, and young leaders from all over Poland will take part in the seminar. They are experienced teachers and professionals who have already participated in advanced courses, trainings or post-graduate studies on the Holocaust, they are involved in different projects and activities to preserve Jewish heritage and bring the memory of Jewish neighbors back to their local communities. Some participants of the second edition of the Master Program in Teaching about the Holocaust graduated from previous editions of the first grade Summer Institute organized at the Jagiellonian University in 2006-2015. The Master Program agenda comprises workshops, presentations, discussions, film sessions and w field trip to the former Jewish ghetto in Cracow (Podgórze) and former German Nazi concentration camp in Płaszów.

The first edition of the Master Program in 2015 was praised by the participants for the agenda content, lecturers' professionalism, reflective and open approach to difficult and complex issues. The interest in this educational offer remains significantly high, this year 80 candidates applied for 25 places available. The organizers' intention is to continue the program in 2017.

The second edition of the Master Program Teaching about the Holocaust received the Honorary patronage of Mr. Józef Pilch, the Governor of the Małopolska Province and Mr. Jacek Krupa, the Marshal of the Małopolska Province.
